To ensure a smooth and transparent entry process, we have compiled the following information to answer common queries regarding eligibility, judging, and the awards ceremony. These FAQs are designed to help you showcase your business in the best possible light and understand the journey from submission to the gala night.

General Information

Q: Who can enter the Gold Medal Catering Awards? A: The awards are open to all catering operations across the island of Ireland, including contract caterers (B&I, Education, Healthcare), event and wedding caterers, private chefs, and in-house club or society catering teams.

Q: How many categories can I enter? A: There is no limit! We actually encourage entering multiple categories to highlight different strengths of your business. We offer bundle deals (e.g., 5 categories for €100) to make this more accessible for teams.

Q: What is the deadline for submissions? A: All entries must be completed and submitted via our online portal by 3rd April 2026.

Judging & Site Visits

Q: How are the awards judged? A: We use three distinct methods depending on the category:

  1. On-Site Visit: A member of our panel visits your site to experience your food and service in person.
  2. Online Interview: A virtual meeting to discuss your operations and team.
  3. Online Submission: A review of your written entry, photos, and supporting documents.

Q: How do I know when the judge is coming? A: After your entry is submitted, our events team will liaise with you to arrange a site visit. If your catering contract or event only runs on specific dates, please make sure to highlight these “available dates” clearly in your entry form.

Q: What is the judge looking for during a site visit? A: Judges evaluate everything from food quality and presentation to staff professionalism, hygiene standards, and the overall “guest experience.”

Entry Requirements

Q: How long should my written submission be? A: Submissions should be concise but thorough, with a maximum limit of 2,000 words per category.

Q: What should I include in my online submission? A: We recommend including high-quality photos of your dishes, menu samples, testimonials from clients, and any relevant certifications (e.g., sustainability or health and safety awards).

Q: Can I enter if I manage multiple properties or sites? A: Yes! However, each property or site must be entered and billed individually to ensure they receive their own independent judging session. For group deals involving 10+ sites, please contact Aoife directly at 01 6401777.
